In starting to answer the question of why would we mentor, we feel like the better question is why WOULDN’T you mentor?

To be fair, mentoring was something we put off for way too long. We wanted to be a family match, but with two young kids and a very busy lifestyle, we felt we just couldn’t make it work, until COVID hit and everything came to a stop. All of the distractions, the sporting events, the dance recitals, the business travel, the school events…everything halted. And we had time to really think about how we wanted to live our life, how we wanted to invest our time and in what ways we could share the love we had as a family, with someone who may just be out there waiting for it.

Fast forward to today and we have been mentoring an amazing girl for 2 1/2 years. We can’t imagine a time when she wasn’t a part of our life. We have shared many adventures together, from canoeing to ice-fishing. We have done fall hikes and summer days at the beach. But, what we love most is that her favorite thing to do is to come over to our house and play games, do puzzles and watch movies.

Mentoring grows you. And it makes an enormous difference in not only the life of your mentee, but of your mentor. So, I pose the question back to you: Why WOULDN’T you mentor?
