Navellah & the Kubisiak Family – Celebrating 2 Years

We have had so much fun together with Navellah. Two of the events that stand out from this past year are definitely ice fishing (a first for all of us except for Jim) and the Kids ‘n Kinship 5K in the rain, which actually made it quite memorable (as did the Crumbl Cookies that were our post-walk snacks).

Two special moments that come to mind were being a part of the Kids ‘n Kinship match video for last year’s gala (and Navellah’s enthusiasm in her responses!) and canoeing at Camp Streefland. Why canoeing? One of the first things Navellah told us when we matched is that she did NOT want to EVER go canoeing. Well, when we arrived at Camp Streefland, we asked her if she wanted to do something brave. She said yes, and so we proceeded to the canoe area. Once in the canoe, Navellah had a moment of
fear that caused her to want to turn back immediately. We encouraged her to keep being brave and that she was conquering her fear and challenging herself by continuing on. We set a goal of making it to a certain point in the lake, and despite her initial protests, we made it to that point before we turned around. To say she conquered a fear and was brave would be an understatement, and she was very, very proud of herself when we returned to shore. Being a part of this growth was priceless.
